Nickel in Watches Causes Allergic Reactions - Part II

The newly designed rugged chronograph features a stainless steel case with a bi-directional 24-hour rotating bezel. The watch offers perfect readability due to matte-finish dial with luminous markers. The Polar Surveyor displays local time as well as a GMT/UTC-based second time zone. In addition, the watch provides the date and the chronograph function with the elapsed seconds, minutes and hours. The watch is driven by the brand's specially developed caliber K.751. To develop the mechanism Kobold has totally reworked the ETA 7750, appreciated as one of the most reliable and accurate chronographs ever created. The Polar Surveyor Chronograph has been developed by the Kobold Company to meet the utmost needs of professional explores. The initial version of the Polar Surveyor was created in collaboration with Sir Ranulph Fiennes, 'the world's greatest living explorer' as stated by the Guinness Book of World Records. The Kobold Polar Surveyor has accompanied explorers on numerous expeditions to the North and South Pole as a really functional wrist instrument. The Kobold specialists based the bezel's minute-graduated ratcheting system upon three ceramic ball bearings that is more effective than a common system applying click-springs. It makes the bezel well protected from dirt and freezing moisture that could lock it up.The Polar Surveyor is presented on a corresponding Soarway bracelet provided with a patented screw-locked system. The Polar Surveyor's caliber is responsible for the regular timing and chronograph functions and displaying time for a second time zone, a function used by explorers for keeping in touch with the rest of the world.Kobold Polar Surveyor Chronograph features the brand's signature Soarway case crafted from stainless steel. The redesigned watch model sports a bi-directional rotating bezel with 24-hour graduation.

The extended telescopic minute hands provide a wide, easy-to-read dial. When the hour hands get retracted, their reduced length offers a shorter and more comfortable case. Every of the three satellites has four hours: 1/4/7/10, 2/5/8/11 and 3/6/9/12. When the new hour gets to the start of the minute chapter, the hand lengthens for indicating the minutes. When the hour passes, the two other hour satellites, with retracted minute hands, start rotating getting ready to take the center stage. The hour satellites that are shaped as angular truncated pyramids provide clear and instinctive time-reading from the side as well as from above. The length of the 201 together with the lugs is 43.5 mm - meaning the timepiece is really comfortable for wearing. It is the first ever horological odometer. It features an absolutely new and original indication. The 100 Year Plus indicator accounts the total time of the movement's functioning for over a whole century. It is noteworthy that the 'Oil Change' and '100 year plus' indicators do not use the mainspring energy as they are operated from the crown winding. This way the watch's creators protected the watch from power reserve reduction and the movement from any negative effect on accurate timekeeping.URWERK's signature Fine Tuning screw is applied for comfortable adjustment that gives the wearer a chance to tune precisely the watch timing to correspond to his own lifestyle.

Watches on the Moon

"Pardon me, sir, but do you have the time?"The patient calls back, "One moment!" and throws himself upon the ground, pulling out a short stick as he does. He pushes the stick into the ground, and, pulling out a carpenter's level, assures himself that the stick is vertical. With a compass, the patient locates north and with a steel ruler, measures the precise length of the shadow cast by the stick.Withdrawing a slide rule from his pocket, the patient calculates rapidly, then swiftly packs up all his tools and turns back to the pedestrian, saying, "It is now precisely 3:29 pm, provided today is August 16th, which I believe it is."The man can't help but be impressed by this demonstration, and sets his watch accordingly. Before he leaves, he says to the patient, "That was really quite remarkable, but tell me, what do you do on a cloudy day, or at night, when the stick casts no shadow?" "What Time?A man had been driving all night and by morning was still far from his destination. He decided to stop at the next city he came to and park somewhere quiet so he could get an hour or two of sleep. As luck would have it, the quiet street he chose happened to be one of the city's most popular jogging routes. No sooner had he settled back to snooze when there came a knocking on his window. He looked out and saw a jogger running in place."Yes?""Excuse me, sir," the jogger said, "do you have the time?" The man looked at the car clock and answered, "7:15."The jogger said thanks and left. The man settled back again, and was just dozing off when there was another knock on the window and another jogger.

TAG Heuer Monza Calibre 36

The architecture of the watch differs from any other sports watch, reflecting the power and beauty of steel through contrasts play and elegant lines. The timepiece goes on a distinctively designed link bracelet, composed of S-shaped links. The brand managed to develop the bracelet that is standard-setting for fluidity, comfort and ergonomics. The case of the TAG Heuer Link quartz watch is crafted from a block of solid steel. The watch's scratch resistant sapphire crystal is slightly curved. The watch is powered by a quartz movement. It is 200-meter water-resistant. As the models of the timepiece has been developed from different materials, according to the model, the bezel of the timepiece is fixed or unidirectional produced from steel or gold. The timepiece stands out due to its rare elegance. It seems to be the best choice for Agent Colin, appreciated as a complex and fascinating character. TAG Heuer's iconic Link watch is equally suitable for everyday business life as well as variety of sports activities, defining modern style and success values. There is also a model with the diamond-set bezel. The dial of the watch features facetted, hand-fitted hour markers that are stainless steel, gold plated or diamond, depending on the model. The hour markers and hands are covered by luminescent substance to provide perfect legibility in any light conditions. The TAG Heuer Link quartz watch is secured to the wrist with either steel or a combination of steel and 20 microns plated gold bracelet. The first timepieces that served as the base for the TAG Heuer Link series were initially introduced in 1987 under the name 'S/el' standing for 'sport and elegance'.

Review of the Tissot Seastar 1000

The BraceletThe bracelet on this Orient bears a strong resemblance to the bracelet from the Tissot Seastar 1000 I reviewed last year, however I'd place the Orient's bracelet slightly higher in terms of quality. It's heavy, uses solid end links to inte***ce with the case (we like SELs), and has polished center links. The Orient's bracelet is much quieter then the Tissot's which is guilty of *** squeaking and rattling sounds, and has a far better Seiko-style push button deployment clasp. The fold-over clasp is nicely signed with the Orient name and their logo which adds a bit of class. On a watch like this (which is not a special edition or a collectors item) the packaging is not a huge part of the experience, and I'm happy to see that they put more time into the fit and finish of the case, movement, and bracelet then the packaging (though nice packing always helps make a good first impression). Most watches of a similar style come in very similar packaging; it's usually dive watches that get all the cool boxes. ConclusionThis is a pretty slick little timepiece that really starts to grow on you. I miss the date complication, and the slide rule is lost on me, but I love the size and polish of the case, and the open heart dial adds some class and uniqueness. I think the bracelet is nice enough that I would not consider the variations of this watch that come without it.PackagingThis watch comes in relatively pedestrian packaging similar to many other watches in the price range: a plain marked box, hang tag, and an instruction booklet are all that accompany the watch itself.

Introducing the Watch Report Forums

The PackagingWe've started paying closer attention to packaging recently on Watch Report because we've come to believe that it's an extremely important aspect of the experience of buying and owning a watch. Revealing your watch — especially one you've paid a decent amount of money for — should be a rewarding experience worth savoring.Whether you like the presentation of the MTM Black Seal will depend largely on your personality, and chances are, if you're interested in a watch like this, you'll love it. The packaging is tough, functional, practical, and very appropriate. The Black Seal comes in a watertight, airtight, dust-proof, and crush-resistant Seahorse model 120 case which most men will covet almost as much as the watch inside. Why should people have to bring their watches in to a jeweler to get adjusted? The hex screws make the bracelet easy to size, strong, and in my opinion, lend it a unique and tough look. And then there's the crown. The crown is big and textured to make it easy to grasp, and the threading of the crown and stem is precise which makes it very easy to release and reseal. This may seem like a given, but I've handled enough watches with difficult to manage screwdown crowns that I really appreciate when it's done right. Open the case, and you will find a foam block with the watch, tools, and appropriately sparse documentation (the instructions and warranty information fit on a single card) perfectly nestled within.

The Citizen Attesa GMT (ATD53

It's certainly the most subtle and unrecognizable G-Shock currently in the lineup, and most importantly, the slimmest. It has the same octagonal case as many of the older G-Shocks (and the new retro tribute G-Shocks), but the brushed stainless steel bezel makes the shape much more pronounced. In fact, the shape is the first thing you notice about the GW056A. My wife calls it my Battlestar Galactica watch because the unconventional shape is similar to the shape *** will apparently assume if the world is ever destroyed by Cylons (of course, I'm talking about the new Battlestar Galactica). The extremely slim and lightweight design is really what sets the GW056A apart. In terms of features, you'll notice that it's on par with all my favorite G-Shocks: Atomic calibration (US and Japan). Automatic calendar. Electroluminescent backlight with auto EL function (meaning it can automatically illuminate when tilted to about 40° in the dark). World time (48 cities, 29 time zones, and automatic daylight savings adjustment). Four daily alarms and one snooze alarm (which keeps sounding until explicitly disabled). Countdown timer (up to 60 minutes). Stopwatch with split time (resolution of 1/100th of a second, and a maximum time of 59:59.99).I've owned my GW056A since they were first introduced in Japan about two years ago (which means mine is actually a GW056J — the identical Japanese version), and it still gets regular wrist time. I like to wear it in the winter because it fits nicely under my coat sleeve, and when I ride my motorcycle since it slips easily beneath a glove.

Review of the Phosphor E Ink Watch

The PAW1300 has additional markers outside the outer LCD ring which are used with both the compass and the barometer. They are highly reflective and almost sparkle when the light hits them right. The buttons on the PAW1300 are squared off as opposed to the rounded buttons of the PAW1200. The flat su***ce allows the labels (mode, comp, baro, and alti) to be printed directly on the buttons rather than on the case, which, in turn, allows for a smaller case. There are things I like about the PAW1200 over the 1300, and if I had enough real estate on my wrist to accommodate it, I'd probably go with the PAW1200. Being that I am a watch lover cursed with relatively narrow wrists, however, I find the PAW1300 to be a much better fit without any compromise in functionality. The PAW1300 series is available in black (PAW1300-1V), green (PAW1300-3V), and with a titanium bracelet (PAW1300T-7V). The PAW1300 has a smaller resin band than its predecessor, and has a single pin buckle rather than a double pin. The fewdifferences that are easy to spot are the lack ofthe LCD overlay for the compass. The 1300 nowhas a small ring just inside the solar collectorring which functions as a second-hand sweep(a small rectangle at the edge moves around the dialto indicate seconds). The compass also uses thisring and indicates north with three small rectangles(as well as one rectangle for the other directions).I think the LCD overlay would have been easierto see, and also would have had a more intuitive"compass" feel.
